Our Collaboration

Nothing is easier than commissioning a work of art of your unique pet or favorite person:

Take your time to browse my website and be inspired by the portraits, drawing styles, and artist materials shown. Consider how you would like to have your favorite creature immortalized: as a full-body portrait, a movement study, a composition of multiple poses, or an expressive head portrait.

The expression of the artwork varies greatly depending on the drawing technique used. Graphite may seem purist, but it is unmatched in terms of depth of expression and the realization of the finest details. Charcoal drawings have sharper contrast and more dramatic character, while colored pencils can achieve a photorealistic perfection that no other medium allows with this level of finesse. Pastels, on the other hand, fascinate with their velvety application and incredible depth of color. When creating animal portraits, the multi-layered, loose application of the pigments emphasizes the fluffy appearance of fur and hair. Consider the technique you would like to use for your portrait drawing.

Select one or more photographs that you particularly like because they show your pet in a typical, endearing, and approachable pose. Check whether the image quality meets the standards I require for creating high-quality, precise drawings.
I explain what you need to pay attention to in the “Reference Photo” section.

Do you now have a more precise idea of the type, technique, and position you’d like to have your pet portrayed? Great! Send me an email with the photo files attached and describe your wishes and ideas. I will consider your suggestions and, after examining the image files in detail, provide my assessment. Together, we’ll discuss the advantages of the respective techniques
and formats and select the optimal format for your artwork.

Now the written order is placed. After we’ve agreed on a motif, technique, and format, I’ll send you the work contract via email. Please sign it and return it to me.

Upon written order placement, the initial deposit of 50% of the purchase price is due. Only after this deposit has been credited can I reserve your spot on my commission list. Since I don’t work on an assembly line, but rather create each individual portrait with the utmost care and attention to detail, my spots are limited. For each spot on the list, other requests will be canceled or postponed. I will inform you regularly about the status of your commission and when I can
begin work.

One to two weeks before I begin working on your order, I will notify you in writing. The remaining purchase price is now due. Please keep in mind that I will be working  exclusively on your order for many days, sometimes weeks, and that the finished pieces will be unique pieces of your pet, and I cannot resell them elsewhere.

Once I’ve received the full purchase price, I’ll let you know immediately when I’ve started work on your piece. From now on, it’s only a few weeks until you can receive your artwork.

I’ll email you image files of the finished work before matting, framing, or mounting the drawing on foam board, as desired. Packaging and shipping costs vary depending on the image size and shipping address and must be paid in advance.
If you live nearby, you are welcome to pick up your artist portrait from my studio.
